Literature Text

Utter obliteration
Total annihilation
Ripping, tearing, shredding
What you've all been dreading

The end is nigh
And none can fly
From this terrible fate
Darkness you must await

In it's face
The human race
Is all but completely nugatory
Such is our pitiful story

We live and die
Under the sky
That ever watches the masses
Up until now calm, passive

But now it falls
To crush all
No escape for the vermin below
As beyond sky you cannot go

Doom and death
Steal your breath
Against such insurmountable odds
Brought low are our puny gods

Not man's might
Nor foresight
Can spare you this sentence
For it is truly unrelenting

You will burn
Each in turn
For the weight of humanity
Is too great a toll on sanity

The human flood
Is but blood
A sinister progress will push
All here into that great ambush

The trap of knowing too much
Is it better to know and fear, or is it better to trust and have faith?

Inspired by Dictionary.com's word of the day, nugatory.
